LPC
Kim DeSio is a Licensed Professional Counselor whose professional journey combines more than 25 years of experience in business development and consulting with a deep commitment to mental health, personal growth, and holistic well-being. After spending much of her career in the corporate world, Kim recognized a growing passion for helping others navigate life’s challenges and began her transition into the mental health profession in 2016. She now provides counseling services to clients in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Colorado.
Kim’s approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that meaningful change begins with feeling understood, respected, and accepted. She brings warmth, authenticity, optimism, and compassion to the therapeutic relationship and strives to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients can openly explore their experiences, challenges, and goals. She views therapy as a collaborative process and works with each individual to develop an approach that reflects their unique needs, strengths, values, and circumstances.
Kim holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in International Business from the University of Denver and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Saint Joseph. Her commitment to a holistic approach to wellness is further supported by her Health Coach Certificate from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition through SUNY. She is also completing a Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Teaching Certificate through Brown University’s School of Professional Studies, in partnership with the Mindfulness Center, and is currently working toward EMDRIA certification through the EMDR International Association.
While Kim draws from a variety of counseling theories and evidence-based practices, her primary therapeutic foundation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She helps clients explore the relationship between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and develop practical skills that support greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and lasting change. Her humanistic perspective emphasizes the importance of individuality, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. She believes clients are the experts in their own lives and that therapy should provide a space in which they can develop insight while building confidence in their ability to make meaningful changes.
Kim is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) through the EMDR Institute, Inc., founded by Dr. Francine Shapiro. When clinically appropriate, she incorporates EMDR into treatment for clients experiencing trauma and PTSD, anxiety, phobias, depression, and other distressing life experiences. Her ongoing education in EMDR and mindfulness reflects her commitment to continued professional development and to expanding the therapeutic tools available to her clients.
Kim has a particular interest in working with young adults and adults navigating significant life transitions. These transitions may involve relationships, career, family, identity, loss, trauma, personal development, or periods of uncertainty and change. She recognizes that even positive transitions can be challenging and believes therapy can provide an opportunity to pause, gain perspective, reconnect with personal values, and develop the skills needed to move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Kim believes that asking for help is an act of courage rather than weakness. Her goal is to meet clients where they are, help them better understand themselves, and support them in developing the insight, skills, and resilience needed to create a life that feels authentic, balanced, and meaningful.
Outside of her professional work, Kim is a devoted parent, pet-lover, and nature enthusiast. She enjoys spending time outdoors, exploring new places, traveling, and embracing the experiences and relationships that make life meaningful.
